A Little Shamrock on It to Miss Rose Lacombe, Bemidji, Minnesota, 19??
[Postmarked] St. Paul Minn, Mar 16, Merriam[? no year] [To] Miss Rose Lacombe Bemidji, Minn
Dear Rose, As it is getting close to St. Patricks day I must send you a card with a little shamrock on it now but don't delay send me one as the answer of it. Your friend J. M.
Ah, a Nanaimo connection! I happened to find this card in Nanaimo. It sounds as if Rose's parents were of French descent, perhaps French-Canadian. In Alberta there are two towns, Morinville and Lacombe; both were first settled by Francophone missionaries.
The postmark is for the Merriam Park branch of the St. Paul, MN post office.
ReplyDeleteRose LaCombe was born in Garnes, Red Lake, Minnesota on 20 Oct 1889 to Alphonse LaCombe and Marie Morinville.
Rose married James Maurice Kearney. She passed away on Sep 1974 in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada. I suspect J. M. was her future hubby. :)
