In the "Minnesota, Death Index, 1908-2002" we find Hedwig Schueler nee Fischer (30 Aug 1891 - 15 Nov 1966 in Martin County) and her mother's maiden name was Schley.
She married Fred William Schueler (11 Sep 1889 - 15 Nov 1966) and they appeared to have had no children.
Hedwig's mother, Mathilde Schley had a large number of brothers and sisters (at least 9 of them!) Esther (28 Apr 1901 - Mar 1984 in Dunnell, MN) was Mathilde's brother Richard's oldest daughter.
Dunnell is in Martin County - a county that is sparsely populated even today.
Ah, that explains why Esther appeared to be a woman of few words. She was only 7 years old when the post card was sent, so her mother (or a sister) probably wrote the greeting & addressed it for her.

ReplyDeleteThanks for the great detective work, Iggy!
I found the image to be touching - and it is specially so when you consider the ages of the sender and recipient.
